New Release: Electric Bass Method by José Resto

Do you want to learn to play and integrate quickly into a group or musical ensemble?

Greetings. My name is José (Naldy) Resto. I started learning to play guitar when I was 12 years old, but then I got interested in the electric bass. My friend Abner played it in church and I found it curious that the bass had four strings and that only he played the notes marking the rhythm without having to make chords to accompany a song, like on the guitar. He explained how to play and lent me a bass method written by Mel Bay. By learning the theory and with Abner’s guidance, I began to learn technique, note reading, and the role of the bass in a band.

I learned to listen to music that fostered my growth. I started buying books that helped me understand the instrument better. I was always attentive to the advice of other musicians who shared their knowledge, and to the instructions of musical directors when we worked on a piece of music.

For my part, what I intend with this method for electric bass is to group those teachings that helped me, and explain them in a simple and systematic way so that you can apply them quickly. I know it will be a great tool in your growth as a musician.

With this method you will acquire the theoretical knowledge and develop the skills to play the electric bass. In addition to being able to accompany a song, you will be able to understand its rhythmic, melodic and harmonic structure.

The book is written from the perspective of the author teaching each lesson in the classroom. The theory and explanations include charts with detailed instructions for a better understanding of the material.

Among the topics covered are:

  • theory
  • instrument technique
  • scales
  • arpeggios
  • harmonic circles
  • chord structure
  • and much more.

It incorporates a section of musical rhythms such as rock, pop ballad, bossa nova and cumbia, which you will be able to apply in a sequence of chords that you will find in the exercises.

You will learn to accompany songs that are in major or minor keys. It covers the use of major and minor chords in a song and how they are used in popular music.

The objective is that the student can begin to play the instrument in a short time, applying what has been learned in the lessons. Not only understanding the theory and music reading, but also being able to accompany a popular music song.

A teacher or tutor to provide support is recommended for those students new to the instrument.
